Top Soccer (Own) Goals
As I try to avoid talking about UW blowing a 41-26 lead to Arizona, I give you some of the best (or worst) own goals scored in soccer.

Only on ESPN
A simple hot dog eating contest in Coney Island. These announcers treat it as if Joey Chestnut would be shot by the mafia if he lost. An AMERICAN HERO???? And why do we need an announcer for hot dog eating (let alone televising it)?

Okay........
Northern Iowa faced Iowa last year on ESPN U (which explains why I don't know who the announcers are). NIU is about to punt on this play, listen to the analyst here with the weirdest thing I've ever heard.

Blog Show #22
I haven't found the time to watch the Blog Show, but it is very well done. Here's the video of the last episode, and I guess Michael Wilbon is frightened by this.

A little Q & A #14: Video Edition
I've got nothing to write about (other than Rafael Nadal owning Roger Federer AGAIN), we're going to have another Q & A featuring Martin Tyler goal calls in soccer. Tell me which one is the best (or most memorable) and why.

Note: I'm not a Liverpool fan, but most of the memorable calls here happen to involve Liverpool.

Us Americans should never announce a football (soccer) game
Today I decided to watch the Gold Cup match between Trinidad and Tobago vs. the USA on Fox Soccer Channel. The announcers were DC United announcer Dave Johnson and analyst Paul Caligiuri, who is only famous because of this. So with that in mind, let's sum up their performance in two words. Utter Crap! Why is it that every time I listen to an American announcer (especially those guys at ESPN), they are terrible?
Caligiuri said that El Salvador was out of the Gold Cup after losing to Guatemala. The problem with that, is that El Salvador is 1-1-0, and the tournament uses the third place knockout stage. It took him until the end of the 2-0 US win to fix that statement. As for Dave Johnson, he has found a way to make every cross from the US sound exciting. That would be good, but at least 6-8 of those crosses were either headed out, caught by the goalkeeper, or went out of play. The worst part of the game, was having to hear Dave Johnson's goal call. I don't have any video for you for today's game, but to give you a sense (and potentially a headache), of how it sounds, listen to this.
I envy the British, the Australians, and even the Canadians, their announcers for soccer are better than ours by 5 country miles. You'd think if I had a choice between listening to Martin Tyler or any other American announcer, I'd pick an American announcer? Do us a favor ESPN, Fox Soccer Channel, and ABC, do what the Canadians and the Aussies do, get the British announcers please?

Seattle Sonics do the right thing
After 2 crap like seasons, the Seattle Sonics have fired coach Bob Hill and removed GM Rick Sund.
This news has gotten me wrapped with happiness, because we fired these 2 guys who helped the crappiness. So now we know we won't draft a guy from Africa or Europe who is 7 feet tall and proves to be a bust. In all "seriousness", we have to look at Bob Hill and his glorious career as
Sonics head coach.
Wins: 63
Losses: 81
Oh well, here's a nice song that fits Hill and Sund getting the can.
Ok, now that Bob Hill is kicked out, who's the next guy we should hire?

Tirade
Apparently, Tennessee Coach Bruce Pearl went on an absolute rant following one of the most memorable collapses since UCLA/Gonzaga to "Gramps" Greg Oden and THE Ohio State University. For reasons unknown, this never made it to the tube. However, that doesn't mean it didn't go on Youtube! So SS Reporters has obtained this exclusive video to show that Pearl was so mad, his body changed color and he forgot which team he lost to!
